Carvens Lissaint

“I want my  work to be a reflection of the light and love God has put in all of us. Force people out of their comfort zone and challenge those to relive the truth about themselves. I want to be a vessel that can be in service for the people, and God.”

I thank Carvens for re-living his heartbreaks, comeups, falldowns, discoveries ….. With me. I feel as tho every word that leaves his lips is a hits me like a bullet, straight to the heart. God has blessed him upon bless him with grace, talent, beauty and life… After every poem, after every punch line, after every tear, I always wonder.. Where can I love Carvens and why cant there be any more Carvens??? Thanks God for His creation!!!

I stumbled across Carvens and his work today…the first poem that I listend to of his was entitled “Home” and I was very much moved by it. However, it was not until I came across his “Love Poem” that I really felt something in me change. I want to thank The Strivers Row for putting excellent poets on display for the world to partake in but I also want to give a standing ovation to Mr. Carvens Lissaint. For me as a young black woman at a predominantly white college there are times where you feel like that love set on fire that was described in that poem is unattainable. But after hearing that poem, I will trust that God has a plan for my life and for the man that will come in it to experience that kind of love…because there are too many mediocre things in life, and love should not have to be one of them.

    Thank You.
